Athletic Training Club - AT Club

The purpose of the Athletic Training Club is to promote the advancement of knowledge in sports medicine and to provide opportunities for group activities. Thus, the following considerations are pertinent to fulfilling the goals of the club:

  • To serve as a communication link between the students in the AT major and the faculty;
  • To pursue educational forums for the benefit of the members;
  • To develop cohesiveness among Club members through cooperative social activities and community service;
  • To maintain an ongoing pursuit of fundraising efforts to benefit the club and its members.

Meeting Place & Time: Meets monthly on 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m., Horton Fieldhouse or as announced on the AT Club bulletin board in Horton.

Coaching Minors Club - ACE Club

The Coaching Minors Club (or ACE) assists with various high school and collegiate athletic events, assists interested students with local coaching opportunities, and invites area coaches/administrators to present their views and ideas on a variety of  topics.

Leaders in Fitness Education - LIFE Club

Exercise Science majors are encouraged to join the Leaders in Fitness Education (or L.I.F.E.) Club, a campus-based organization promoting social and professional opportunities for majors. Members plan and participate in an annual  two-day trip to Chicago to tour potential exercise science internship sites. They also organize an annual Walk for L.I.F.E. on the Illinois State University quad for students, faculty and staff. This event promotes fitness and healthy lifestyles. Physical Education Teacher Education - PETE Club

Physical Education Teacher Education majors are encouraged to participate in the P.E.T.E. Club. Networking skills are developed that lay a foundation for their careers.  Programs pertinent to the students augment the classroom curriculum such as mock student teaching interviews, panel discussions with area school administrators, and social activities with peers and faculty. Members are also introduced to activities not currently included in their curriculum that may be taught in the public schools, such as team handball and ultimate Frisbee. Club members find attending the annual AAHPERD convention to be a positive experience.

Parks and Recreation Society - PARS

The Parks and Recreation Society offers many advantages for both new and continuing students. Its purpose is to provide a comfortable atmosphere to inspire and encourage students to become better recreation and leisure professionals. Club members attend annual state and national conferences, host professional guest speakers, engage in social activities, and assist with humanitarian projects such as Habitat for Humanity and Bloomington's Harvest Bloom Festival.

Rho Phi Lambda is the national honorary fraternity for Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services. To achieve the honor of membership in Rho Phi Lambda, a student must show evidence of academic excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service to campus or community. They must be in the upper 15% of their class and have a minimum GPA of 3.2 in professional courses.  Eligible students will be notified about the application process and, if selected, the induction procedures.  For more information contact: Dr. Barbara Schlatter at beschla@ilstu.edu.
