Information for Prospective Transfer Students

If the prospective transfer student is presently attending or is considering attending a junior college or community college, the recommendation is to complete only one year of study at the junior college prior to a transfer to Illinois State University. If the transfer student is successfully admitted to Illinois State and applies and is admitted to the AT Program during the fall semester, the Program can be completed during the subsequent 5 semesters plus the summer internship. This means the education plan, including the year at the junior college and the internship, will take 9 semesters minimum to complete.

In contrast, if the student attends two years at the junior college or earns an associates degree prior to a transfer to Illinois State University, the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training will still take the 5 semesters following the fall application semester plus the summer internship. This means the education plan, including the associates degree from the junior college and the internship at Illinois State, will take 11 semesters minimum rather than the 9 semesters described above.

Finally, if the student is planning to transfer from an accredited AT Program, early and ongoing communication between the two program directors is strongly encouraged to facilitate possible transfer of AT required courses. Nevertheless, under most circumstances, the student must repeat required AT courses at Illinois State University to ensure that all AT competencies and proficiencies have been included.
